Solidcom SE vs SE 2 vs SE Pro: Which Hollyland Headset Intercom Is Right for a Small Crew?

Three Hollyland intercoms share almost the same name — Solidcom SE, Solidcom SE 2 and Solidcom SE Pro — and on paper they look almost identical. All three are full-duplex (everyone talks and listens at once), run on the 1.9 GHz band, reach 1,300 ft (400 m) line of sight, and use self-contained headsets with no beltpack or cables.

So what are you paying for when you step up? Here is the honest answer, taken from the box contents and specifications of each kit.

Solidcom SE: the entry point

At $229 for two people, the SE is the cheapest way to get full-duplex wireless headsets. The 2-person kit comes with two batteries — one per headset — so for long days you will want spares. Good for small shoots, school productions and short events.

Solidcom SE 2: more batteries, larger crews

The SE 2 2-person kit doubles the batteries to four, so one set charges while the other is in use. It adds an 8-slot charging base and a carrying case, and scales to an 8-person kit. If your event runs all day, the extra batteries alone justify the difference.

Solidcom SE Pro: when the room is loud

The SE Pro adds dual-mic Environmental Noise Cancellation. That is the feature that matters at a concert, a sports venue or beside a generator, where the other two pass the background noise straight into everyone’s ear. It is also the only one offered in a 9-person kit.

Quiet studio: SE or SE 2. Loud venue: SE Pro. That is most of the decision.

When none of these is the right answer

The SE family is built for small crews close together. If you need many more users, longer range, a base station or connection to an existing wired intercom, look at Solidcom C1 Pro and M1 Pro in our wireless intercom buying guide. For multi-camera shows, pair the intercom with a wireless tally system so the crew knows which camera is live.
