Wireless intercom pricing spans a wider range than almost any other category on set: a two-person Solidcom SE starts at $229, while a ten-person Solidcom H1 runs $25,999. Both are “wireless intercom”. They solve very different problems.

The question that decides which tier you need is not crew size. It is whether your people can wear a beltpack.

The three architectures

• Headset-only (Solidcom SE, SE Pro, C1, C1 Pro) — the radio lives in the headset. No beltpack, no cable running down your back, nothing to clip to a belt you might not be wearing. Setup is: charge, power on, talk.
• Beltpack + base station (Solidcom M1, M1 Pro) — a base station anchors the network and each user wears a beltpack wired to a headset. More range, more users, wired-intercom integration, and a proper mixing desk. More to rig.
• Hub-based roaming (C1 Pro Roaming Hub, H1) — for venues where crew walk between zones and must not drop out.

If your crew is camera operators, ACs, a director and a sound mixer moving around a set, headset-only is almost always the right answer. If you are integrating with a theatre’s existing wired intercom, or you need more than ten people, you need the beltpack tier.

Eight people on one network with noise-cancelling headsets and 1,100ft of range, still with nothing on anyone’s belt. If the crew is big but the rigging time is short — live events, multi-camera shoots that move — this is the ceiling before you move to beltpacks.

Beltpack systems

You move to a beltpack system for one of three reasons: you need more than eight people, you need to integrate with existing 2-wire/4-wire wired intercom, or you need the range and roaming that only a base station provides.

What the “-DH” suffix means: double-ear headsets instead of single-ear. You want DH when the environment is loud enough that one open ear loses the conversation — concert stages, motorsport, factory floors. On a quiet narrative set, single-ear is better, because the operator needs to hear the room.

WHEN WIFI IS THE PROBLEM

Solidcom M1 Pro - 8B — $7,699

The M1 Pro runs on 1.9GHz DECT rather than the 2.4/5GHz bands every phone, laptop and lighting controller on site is fighting over.
